A “dead” redmi Note 8 phone is in a mailbox in Misa, a suburb of Tokyo, and a message on the package has been posted on the internet.
The phone number for the service, which was last registered in April, is on the bottom of the package.
A post on the official Twitter account for the mobile operator said the “device is in an office and in a safe condition”.
However, the carrier has not provided a phone number to verify whether the device is alive or dead.
The message on Wednesday comes just a day after a similar message on a similar package was posted on Reddit, where the user “Pikachu” suggested that the device was dead.
“My friend found a dead redmi phone with a fake number,” the user wrote.
“I will call the company and see if they will come out and get the phone and return it to you, or something similar.
But I am not sure if this is the case, as I did not hear anything from the company about it.
I have no clue what happened to it, but I am just curious.”
The company has not responded to requests for comment.
